Student Library Orientation

Schedule student orientations early in the school year to familiarize students with library programs and procedures.

  • Include the following, as needed:
  • Hours
  • Policy for hall passes
  • Checkout period
  • Booktalks
  • Access information for Research Resources (subscription databases) from home
  • Computer use policy (AUP training)

New Teacher Library Orientation
Contact the principal to make sure that a library orientation is included in the new teacher agenda during campus staff development. Include the following, as needed:

  • Tour of the facility
  • Bibliography of new materials by subject
  • Checkout procedure for equipment
  • Scheduling procedure for classes, broadcast, equipment
  • Information about District services, including
    • Graphic Arts Services
    • Instructional Media Services
    • Copyright information
  • Provide a brief handout or brochure with important points
  • Remote access (home access) information for Research Resources (subscription databases)
  • Copies of Visual Media forms
